As China is distorting Korean history through its 'Northeast Project', it becomes a very important task to arrange sites and objects remaining in North Korea and accumulate relevant materials on these. These books are excavation reports on the mural tomb of Koguryo in Dodo-ri, Yonggang-gun, Nampo-si and historical remains around Okdo-ri. The excavations were jointly conducted by the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Yanbian University and the Institute of Archeology at Korean Academy of Social Science from 20 May to 24 June  2010.

Especially, 《Koguryo's Mural Tomb in Okdo-ri》, a first report to South Korean academia on the remains excavated this time, is expected to become an epoch-making material in the studies on Koguryo's murals. The murals in the tomb include a picture of the tomb owner's life and calligraphic writing of '大?王' meaning 'great ? king', and pictures of dancing and hunting on the east and west walls respectively. These remains will help understand the history and culture of Koguryo more deeply when compared with murals already known.

Also, 《Historical Remains of Okdo-ri, Yonggang-gun, Nampo-si》provides plenty of resources for studies of relevant areas such as Koguryo's power in and around Pyongyang and the changes of Koguryo's tomb styles. Also attached are the excavation reports on the mural tomb of Koguryo in Dongsan-dong, Nangnang District, Pyongyang and the roof tile baking site in Pyongyang Folk Village which were recently released to domestic and foreign media.
