On May 16, a symposium was held at Korea University on the theme of The Establishment of the Two Koreas in 1948 and How the Powers in Northeast Asia Saw Them in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of the Republic of Korea. Co-hosted by the Northeast Asian History Foundation (President: Kim Yong-deok) and Korea University’s Institute of Korean Culture (Director: Jeong Tae-heon), the event was held to gain insight into how Koreans saw the neighboring powers and the situation in Asia, Europe and North America at the time of the establishment of the two Koreas in 1948 and how the four powers, namely the U.S., the Soviet Union, China and Japan, saw the establishment of the two Koreas.
