On July 2-3, the Northeast Asian History Foundation held an international symposium entitled Balhae and East Asia at the National Museum of Korea. During the event, Korean, Russian, Mongolian, Chinese and Japanese historians specializing in the history of Balhae discussed how to carry out the study of history and field investigations of historic sites, in view of the fact that the Balhae people were active over a broad area encompassing Korea, the Maritime Province of Siberia, the Northeastern provinces of China, and Japan. The event served as an occasion on which to seek new ways for the joint exploration and management of historic sites based on the view of history shared by the countries of the region.
